Jubilee Shoals, the largest natural reef system in Cyprus, stands as the premier dive site in the country. Spanning 1.3 km, this reef offers depths ranging from 16 to 50 meters, catering to SCUBA divers of all skill levels, from those with basic Open Water qualifications to the most advanced technical divers.
Within the reef, you’ll encounter a mesmerizing array of features including pinnacles, caverns, caves, swim-throughs, re-entrants, overhangs, sea grass beds, a Canberra aircraft wing, and a striking wall that runs the entire length of the reef’s southern side.
Scientifically significant, Jubilee Shoals has piqued the interest of the Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre. In collaboration with Pissouri Bay Divers, the centre has been conducting research on the Western Pinnacle and Cave System, yielding astonishing findings over the past year. Anticipation is high at Pissouri Bay Divers for the centre’s return visits in 2024 to further explore this remarkable reef.
Known for its rich abundance of corals, Jubilee Shoals boasts the most diverse coral population in Cyprus. The nutrient-rich waters of the reef attract a vibrant array of marine life, including huge loggerhead and green turtles, schools of fish such as amberjack, damselfish, barracuda, bream, and bass. Encounters with the rare bull ray and the occasional dolphin are not uncommon. Moreover, the reef features an array of nudibranchs, a growing lionfish population, and the keen-eyed observer may spot Venus girdles and jellyfish in the crystal-clear blue waters.
